Triantafyllos BATARGIAS was born in Athens. He studied classical guitar at the Hellenic Conservatory and graduated with honors and distinction.

He continued his studies with Jacob Kolanian and obtained diplomas in Harmony of Music, Counterpoint and Fugue with Costas Clavvas and Michael Travlos.

In 2006 he graduated with honours from the department of Humanitarian Studies of the Hellenic Open University, where he majored in Hellenic Civilisation  and went on to acquire a Postgraduate Master’s Degree in the ‘History of Philosophy’ from the department of ‘Philosophy, Education and Psychology’’ of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He is currently a PhD student at the same department.

He has given concerts in cultural and university halls, such as the Central Hall of the University of Athens, the University of Thessalia and the University of Salonica. He has also played at the festival of the ‘Philippos Nakas’ conservatory, the Aetopouleion Cultural Centre, the ‘’Parnassos’ hall etc.

Through the years, he has collaborated with various artists and since 2011 he plays in a duet with the violonist Nelly Economidou.

He works in public education and has served at the Greek Institute of Education where he was involved in educational research and information technology projects.

 

 

 

Nelly (Helen) ECONOMIDES was born in Athens. She studied mathematics at the University of Athens and violin at the conservatories of Athens and Piraeus with Pr. Ismini Chrysohoou-Carter, from where she received a Diploma degree with honors in 1987.

She has been a member of the Athens State Orchestra since 1985.

She was a concertmaster of the National Symphony Youth Orchestra, founded by the director of the Athens State Orchestra Yannis Ioannidis which appeared as soloist.

She took part in the seminars for Orchestra of the EEC (as concertmaster) (1982 Chios, 1983, 1984 Corfu) with Professor Dr. Victor Liebermann and Alexander Pavlovitsh where she appeared as a soloist to.

In 1987, she was selected following an international call as first violin quartet "Athenaeum" which appears in Athens and province.

She was a founding member of the chamber orchestra "Strings of Athens" which until its dissolution held the position of the concertmaster. With "Strings Athens" has appeared in Athens and the provinces and abroad, at the 43rd international Nobel conference in Lindau of Germany after the comments of Yehudi Menuhin who heard the orchestra in Greece.

Since 2000 she has been a founding member of the "Ensemble AKROAMA with Musicians of the Athens State Orchestra", where she served as a concertmaster and with whom she has appeared in Athens at the Athens Concert Hall and in major concert halls in Athens and province and has played with the greatest Greek artists as well as major artists abroad.

Greek and foreign composers have written works especially for the ensemble. The Ensemble has performed numerous first performances of works of composers such as Theodore Antoniou, Olli Kortekangas, Yang Chang, etc.

She is a member of the quintet "Enodon", which plays works from the 17th to the 21st century and has collaborated with Scott Hartmann- trombone, Vincent DiMartino- trumpet, George Farounghias- bassoon, John Karabetsos- trumpet etc.

She was a founding member of the "Oboe Quartet" with Christina Pantelidou oboe, Michael Smirnof viola and cello Ivi Papathanasiou.

She has appeared in chamber music and has recorded for the Greek TV and radio.

She was a member of the Committee of the Ministry of Education with Tatsis Apostolidis Giorgos Demertzis, John Tzoumanis for compiling the syllabus of the violin in music schools.

She began teaching in 1985, initially at the Conservatory of Piraeus Association and then in Athenaeum Conservatory.

She has taught violin for 20 years at the Conservatory of Athens and from 2001 at the Filippos Nakas Conservatory.

Since April 2010 has been teaching at Filippos Nakas Conservatory ensembles for young children aged 5 and up.

Her students have been awarded at the Panhellenic and Pancyprian competitions, music competitions at the Ministry of Education in 2010, the Competition CH.O.N, the Music Competition, held at Eretria during the Music Festival 2011 etc.

She is Chairman of the Association of Musicians of Athens State Orchestra.

Since October 2012 she has taken over the artistic direction of Philip Nakas Conservatory in Melissia.

Since June 2011 she is in a duet with guitarist Triantafyllos Batargias.
