TO APHRODITE
Muse, tell me the deeds by golden Aphrodite, the Cyprian,
who arouses the sweet desire in gods and subdues the tribes of mortal men,
and birds that fly in the sky and all the beasts...
HOMERIC HYMN (V) [abstract]
Translated by Ioanna Karatzaferi

The ART / EUROPEAN ANIMATION CENTER and the MUSEUM OF GREEK FOLK ART of the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports, co-organize the project “APHRODITE 2012: Sacred and Profane Purifications” at The Bath-House of the Winds - department of MGFA, at Plaka, Athens, from December 12th, 2012 to April 30th, 2013 and is carried out on the occasion of the assumption of Presidency of the EU Council by the Cyprus Republic, for the 2nd half of 2012.

The Exhibition is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports.

The Exhibition attempts to redefine the human and the social body of today.

Inspired by the myth of the goddess Aphrodite, more than 50 Greek and foreign artists will broach the adventure of the human body as a suffering historical subject, using all the expressive tools of art at their disposal: words, paintbrushes, chisels, pixels, notes.

Conversing with the archetypal model of beauty, they submit their reflections and reveal that passions born of romantic love (eros) render the adventure of life most fascinating!

The Exhibition is enriched with literary soirées, where texts on relative subject matter are read by the writers themselves or by actors.

Musical events that cover a broad range of selections: from antiquity to the baroque, the tango, art songs and popular emotional vocal renditions accompany the Exhibition.

There will also be screenings of films in which love stars in various roles.

Aphrodite glorified or suffering is here, among us.
