In Tennessee Williams "Orpheus Descending" Aphrodite embodies love having a female gender…

But Williams' Aphrodites are presented with a limb, just like the Aphrodites of Milos: they are mutilated.
His heroines are being tormented within love...They live in a world were love is shunt...
Through his female characters in his plays the American playwright talks about Aphrodite in the most absolute and eloquent way.
His Aphrodites are presented as burning bushes...

"How could I answer with two tongues in my mouth?" Orpheus Descending
